Oral sedation to help you relax.
Oral sedation, a common sedation method, helps you reach a comfortable state while remaining fully conscious. You will be asked to ingest a mild narcotic, either in pill or liquid form, prior to your procedure. The liquid form of sedation is faster-acting and may be ingested just before a procedure, while a pill form may need to be taken before you arrive at your Garden State Dental dental office.
How oral sedation works.
During treatment, your vital signs will be closely monitored to ensure you remain comfortable. In most cases, the effects will wear off shortly after the procedure. Even so, you should bring an adult along to make sure you get safely home afterward.
N2O sedation, also known as nitrous oxide or laughing gas.
N2O is a safe, effective sedation method that has been used in dental offices for decades. It’s the method most dental patients know best. However, many refer to it as laughing gas.
How N2O sedation works.
The N2O sedation method involves placing a mask over the patient’s nose while the patient breathes normally. The nitrous oxide (N2O) usually takes effect within minutes, keeping the patient in a relaxed state throughout a dental procedure. Once the procedure is complete, the effects of the nitrous oxide should wear off quickly, leaving the patient alert and, in most cases, ready to drive home.
