Are Dentures Right for My Missing Teeth?

A denture typically consists of a plate or other appliance onto which artificial teeth are placed. These dental devices are used to replace missing or damaged teeth to create a more attractive smile and a healthier bite. Garden State Dental can provide you with the right denture solutions for your needs and your budget, which will allow you to look and feel your best every day.

Are There Different Types of Dentures?

At Garden State Dental, we specialize in providing affordable quality dentures you can depend on to help you look and feel your best. Some of the most common types of dentures we offer include the following options, which may be just right for you and your family members.

Full Denture

A full denture is designed specifically to replace teeth in the lower or upper jaw. This may require the removal of teeth that would otherwise be in the way of a complete denture. In most cases, the removal of existing teeth is followed by the application of a temporary denture that will allow you to bite and chew normally while your gums heal. A full denture will typically require either attachment to an implant or adhesive compounds to stay affixed to the gums during biting, chewing and speaking.

Partial Denture

For those who have only a few missing teeth, a partial denture is a solid choice that will fill in those gaps in your smile and will help you to chew and bite more effectively. A partial denture that is permanently attached to surrounding teeth is called a bridge. Removable partial dentures, however, are attached on a temporary basis to the teeth surrounding them with a clasp or other removable device that allows these prosthetic devices to be removed easily and quickly.

Flexible Partial Denture

As the name suggests, a flexible partial denture is constructed from flexible, lightweight materials that bend easily and that offer the greatest comfort for those who wear them. These dental devices are designed specifically to blend in with your gums and to look and work like your own natural teeth.

Implant-supported Dentures

For even greater stability and functionality, an implant-supported denture is an excellent choice for replacing missing teeth, providing comfortable support for cheeks and facial features and for chewing, biting and speaking. Your implant-supported dentures may be temporarily or permanently attached to the implants in your jaw. Permanently implanted denture applications offer the greatest comfort and stability for you. Removable dentures that attach to implants are more stable and dependable than traditional denture applications.

What’s the Difference with All-on-4® Dentures?

All-on-4® denture applications are a type of implant-supported denture that only uses four carefully placed post implants to provide anchorage points for full upper or lower denture applications. Once the implants are in place, the upper or lower denture is attached to these posts to create the closest thing possible to natural teeth. The strength of the implants and the solid attachment that these implants offer makes All-on-4 dentures a popular choice among patients at Garden State Dental.

How Are Dentures Placed?

For most patients, removing damaged, decayed or superfluous teeth is a necessary first step in the denture process. After this is completed, your dentist will allow a little additional time for your gums to heal. A temporary denture may be applied as soon as your extractions are complete. If implants are needed, this will usually be done at the same time or soon after your extractions to allow the longest healing time possible. Your dentures will be fabricated to fit your gums and your mouth so that you enjoy the greatest comfort when speaking or eating.

Will My Dentures Be Expensive?

Your dentures cost will vary depending on whether you choose implant-supported or traditional dentures. We will also have to calculate the amount of work needed to prepare your mouth for your denture application in order to include it in your overall cost. The materials chosen to create the artificial teeth and the denture plates will also have an impact on the cost of your treatment. When you come into the office for your first appointment, we would be happy to give you more information.

Is a Soft Denture Reline Necessary?

Soft relines are a pliable and comfortable lining that fits into your upper or lower denture to provide a cushion between the plate and your gums. These applications typically last for two years or more and help make your denture more comfortable.
